John Malkovich

Early Life

John Gavin Malkovich was born on December 9, 1953, in Christopher, Illinois, and grew up in Benton, Illinois. His father, Daniel Leon Malkovich, served as a state conservation director, while his mother, Joe Anne, owned the Benton Evening News. Malkovich has a diverse heritage, with Croatian, English, Scottish, French, and German roots. He attended local schools and was active in theater during his high school years, participating in plays and a folk gospel group.

Career

Malkovich's career began in earnest when he became a charter member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 1976. He gained recognition for his performances in various productions, including a notable role in Sam Shepard's "True West". His film debut came in 1984 with "Places in the Heart", earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Malkovich's Broadway debut was in "Death of a Salesman" alongside Dustin Hoffman. Over the years, he has received numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award and several nominations for prestigious awards such as the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

Personal Life

Malkovich married actress Glenne Headly in 1982, but the couple divorced in 1988. He later began a relationship with Nicoletta Peyran, with whom he has two children. Fluent in French, Malkovich has spent significant time in France, where he co-owns a restaurant and a wine label. Despite his artistic success, he faced financial challenges, notably losing millions in the Madoff investment scandal. Malkovich has expressed a non-political stance, stating he does not have an ideology and has not voted since 1972.
