Early Life

Johnny Logan, born Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard on May 13, 1954, in Frankston, Victoria, is an Irish singer and songwriter who has made a significant impact on the music scene. His father, Charles Alphonsus Sherrard, an Irish tenor known as Patrick O'Hagan, was touring Australia at the time of his birth. When Logan was three, the family returned to Ireland, where he grew up in Howth, Co. Dublin. By the age of 13, he had learned to play the guitar and began composing his own songs. After leaving school, he worked as an electrician while performing in pubs and cabaret acts, eventually gaining recognition for his roles in musicals such as "Adam and Eve" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."

Career

Logan adopted his stage name in homage to the film "Johnny Guitar" and released his first single in 1978. He made his first attempt at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979, finishing third in the Irish National Final. However, it was in 1980 that he achieved fame by winning the Eurovision with the song "What's Another Year," which became a hit across Europe and topped the UK charts. He continued to release music throughout the 1980s, including albums like "Straight From The Heart" and singles such as "Hold Me Now" and "Save Me." Logan's career is notable not only for his performances but also for his songwriting, as he composed the winning song for the Eurovision in 1992.

Johnny Logan has been married to Ailis Sherrard since 1976, and together they have three sons: Adam, Fionn, and Jack.
