Early Life

Joanna Noëlle Levesque, known professionally as JoJo, was born on December 20, 1990, in Brattleboro, Vermont, and raised in Foxborough, Massachusetts. She is of Polish, French, and Irish descent. JoJo's musical journey began at a young age, influenced by her mother, who sang in a church choir and was trained in musical theater. After her parents divorced when she was four, JoJo was raised by her mother and started singing at the age of two, imitating various genres from nursery rhymes to R&B and jazz. Her early performances included appearances on television shows like "Kids Say the Darndest Things" and "Destination Stardom."

Career

JoJo's career took off in 2003 when she competed on "America's Most Talented Kid," catching the attention of record producer Vincent Herbert. At just 12 years old, she signed with Blackground Records and released her debut album, "JoJo," in 2004. The album peaked at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified platinum, selling over four million copies worldwide. Her hit single "Leave (Get Out)" made her the youngest solo artist to achieve a number-one single in the U.S. at age thirteen. JoJo continued to release successful albums, including "The High Road" and "Mad Love," showcasing her evolution as an artist and her ability to blend pop, R&B, and soul.

Personal Life

JoJo lived in Edgewater, New Jersey, with her mother until she turned 18, after which she moved to Boston and later to Los Angeles. She graduated high school in 2009 and briefly attended Northeastern University. JoJo has been involved in various charitable organizations and was engaged to actor Dexter Darden in December 2021, although they broke off their engagement the following year. Throughout her career, JoJo has remained a vocal advocate for her artistic freedom and has continued to evolve her sound and style, solidifying her place in the music industry.
