Joscelyn Eve Stoker, known professionally as Joss Stone, was born on April 11, 1987, in Dover, Kent, England. Growing up in a small village near Cullompton, Devon, she was the third of four children in her family. Despite facing challenges with dyslexia, she developed a passion for music, influenced by iconic artists like Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield.
