Early Life

Julia Scarlett Elizabeth Louis-Dreyfus was born on January 13, 1961, in New York City. She is the daughter of Judith, a writer and special needs educator, and Gérard Louis-Dreyfus, a French billionaire and chairman of the Louis Dreyfus Company. Julia's family background is rich and diverse; her paternal grandfather was a member of the French Resistance during World War II, and she is a distant relative of Alfred Dreyfus, known for the Dreyfus affair. After her parents divorced when she was just a year old, Julia moved to Washington, D.C., where her mother remarried. Julia's comedic talent emerged early, famously sticking raisins up her nose at the age of three to make her mother laugh.

Career

Louis-Dreyfus's career began in earnest when she joined the renowned improvisational theatre group, The Second City.
