KALUSH

Formation

Kalush is a Ukrainian rap group that was formed in 2019 by rapper Oleh Psiuk and music producer Vanyok Klymenko. The group's name is inspired by Psiuk's hometown of Kalush. The lineup initially included multi-instrumentalist Ihor Didenchuk, who was discovered through a Facebook call for sopilka players. A unique aspect of the group is the presence of MC Kylymmen, a virtual persona represented by various individuals, with over 70 people having taken on this role since the group's inception.

Breakthrough

Kalush gained significant attention with the release of their first music video for "Не маринуй" on October 17, 2019. This was followed by their second video, "Ty Gonysh," in November 2019, after which they signed a collaboration agreement with the American hip-hop label Def Jam. Their music quickly resonated with audiences, leading to impressive radio airplay and YouTube views, with their collaborative track "Hory" featuring Alyona Alyona garnering 1.2 million views in just 12 days.

Legacy

In early 2021, Kalush launched a side project called Kalush Orchestra, which blends hip hop with Ukrainian folk motifs. This project achieved international fame when it won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song "Stefania." The group's leader, Oleh Psiuk, is known for his signature pink bucket hat, which has become a symbol of both Kalush and the Kalush Orchestra, raising funds to support Ukraine during the ongoing conflict. Kalush continues to be a significant force in the Ukrainian music scene, recognized for their innovative sound and cultural impact.
