Early Life

Kate Garry Hudson was born on April 19, 1979, in Los Angeles, California, to actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson. Her parents divorced when she was just 18 months old, and she was raised primarily by her mother and her mother's partner, actor Kurt Russell, in Snowmass, Colorado, and Pacific Palisades, California. Hudson has a diverse ancestry, including Italian, Hungarian Jewish, English, and German roots, and she was raised Jewish while also practicing Buddhism. She graduated from Crossroads School in Santa Monica in 1997 and chose to pursue acting over attending New York University.

Career

Hudson's career began at a young age, performing on stage at the Santa Monica Playhouse. She made her film debut in the 1998 drama "Desert Blue" and gained recognition for her role as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous" (2000), which earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and an Academy Award nomination. Following her breakthrough, Hudson starred in various romantic comedies and dramas, establishing herself as a versatile actress.
