Early Life

Catherine Louise "Katey" Sagal was born on January 19, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, into a show business family. Her mother, Sara Zwilling, was a singer and television writer, while her father, Boris Sagal, was a television director and a Russian-Jewish immigrant. Growing up in Brentwood, California, Sagal was surrounded by creativity, with three of her four siblings also pursuing careers in acting. She graduated from Palisades High School and attended the California Institute of the Arts until 1972. Sagal's godfather was the renowned sitcom producer Norman Lear, who played a significant role in her family's life.

Musical Career

Sagal began her career in the entertainment industry as a singer and songwriter, working as a backing vocalist for notable artists such as Bob Dylan and Etta James. In 1976, she was part of The Group with No Name and contributed to their album "Moon over Brooklyn." Over the years, she performed backing vocals for various albums and was a member of Bette Midler's backup singers, the Harlettes. Sagal released her first solo album, "Well..." in 1994, followed by "Room" in 2004, and contributed to the soundtrack of the series "Sons of Anarchy," showcasing her musical versatility.

Acting Career

Sagal's acting career took off with her iconic role as Peggy Bundy on the sitcom "Married... with Children" (1987–1997), where she became known for her comedic talent. She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for her role as Gemma Teller Morrow in "Sons of Anarchy" (2008–2014). Sagal's voice work includes the character Turanga Leela in the animated series "Futurama," which gained a cult following. Personal Life

Katey Sagal has been married three times, first to musician Freddie Beckmeier and then to drummer Jack White. She married writer-producer Kurt Sutter in 2004, and they have a daughter, Esmé Louise, born in 2007. Sagal faced personal challenges, including a stillbirth during her time on "Married... with Children," which was written into the show's storyline. Despite these challenges, she has continued to thrive in her career, balancing her personal and professional life with grace.
