Sir Kazuo Ishiguro was born on November 8, 1954, in Nagasaki, Japan, to Shizuo Ishiguro, a physical oceanographer, and his wife, Shizuko. In 1960, his family relocated to Guildford, Surrey, England, where his father was invited for research at the National Institute of Oceanography. Ishiguro's upbringing in a Japanese family in the UK profoundly influenced his writing, allowing him to view the world from a unique perspective. He attended Stoughton Primary School and Woking County Grammar School, where he developed a passion for music, singing in choirs and listening to artists like Bob Dylan. Initially aspiring to be a professional songwriter, he began learning guitar and writing songs during his teenage years.
