Early Life

Lauren Keyana "Keke" Palmer was born on August 26, 1993, in Harvey, Illinois, and raised in Robbins, Illinois. Growing up in a Catholic household, she was influenced by her parents, both of whom were professional actors before transitioning to full-time jobs. Her father, a Catholic deacon, works in a polyurethane company, while her mother is a high school teacher specializing in working with autistic children. Keke's nickname originated from an imaginary friend of her older sister, Loreal. She began her artistic journey singing in church and performing in stage shows, eventually auditioning for a production of The Lion King at the age of nine.

Career

Keke Palmer's career took off in the early 2000s when she gained her first film role in "Barbershop 2: Back in Business" (2004). By 2005, she signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and starred in the television film "Knights of the South Bronx". Her breakthrough came in 2006 with the film "Akeelah and the Bee", where she played the lead role, earning her a Black Reel Award and an NAACP Image Award. Palmer released her debut album, "So Uncool", on September 18, 2007, which charted on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. She also starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom "True Jackson, VP", where she wrote and performed the theme song, earning $20,000 per episode.

Personal Life

Keke Palmer has been open about her health struggles, including amblyopia and polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, as well as her experiences with anxiety and depression. She identifies as sexually fluid, stating that love is defined by the individual and can change over time. In 2019, she shared her experience with abortion as part of the #YouKnowMe campaign. Palmer has also spoken about her tumultuous relationship with singer Trey Songz, highlighting issues of sexual intimidation.
