Kerry King

Early Life

Kerry Ray King was born on June 3, 1964, in the United States. He developed an interest in music at a young age, picking up the guitar as a child. Influenced by iconic bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden, King honed his skills and developed a unique style that would later define his career.

Career

In 1981, King co-founded the legendary thrash metal band Slayer with Jeff Hanneman. Over the years, he became known as the co-lead guitarist and primary songwriter for the band, contributing to its distinctive sound characterized by chaotic solos and intense riffs. Slayer's music often reflected King's personal views, particularly his strong anti-religious sentiments, which he expressed through his lyrics. After a remarkable 45-year run, King remains one of the band's two enduring members, alongside bassist Tom Araya. In May 2024, he released his debut solo album, "From Hell I Rise," further showcasing his musical prowess.

Personal Life

Kerry King has been married twice and has a daughter named Shyanne Kymberlee King from his first marriage. He currently resides in New York City with his wife, Ayesha. Known for his outspoken views, King is an antitheist who openly criticizes organized religion, believing it to be a crutch for the weak. He is also an avid snake collector, owning a reptile house and herpetology nursery called Psychotic.

Throughout his career, King has received numerous accolades, including two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance with Slayer. He was recognized as one of the "World's Most Mind-Blowing Guitarists" and received the God of Riffs Award from Metal Hammer Germany.
