Early Life

Kate Victoria "KT" Tunstall was born in 1975 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a half-Chinese mother and a Northern Irish father. At just 18 days old, she was placed for adoption and raised in St Andrews, Fife, by her adoptive parents, David and Rosemarie Tunstall. Growing up in a musically supportive environment, KT developed a passion for music early on, asking for a piano at the age of four. Her education included time at Lawhead Primary, Madras College, and the High School of Dundee, culminating in a year at Kent School in Connecticut, where she honed her musical talents by busking.

Career Beginnings

Tunstall's music career began in her twenties, playing in indie bands like Elia Drew and Tomoko, and collaborating with the Fence Collective. After signing with Relentless Records, she released her debut album, "Eye to the Telescope," in 2004, which featured the hit single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree."
