Formation

Lamb of God, originally formed as Burn the Priest in 1994, emerged from Richmond, Virginia, when bassist John Campbell, drummer Chris Adler, and guitarists Mark Morton and Matt Conner came together during their college years at Virginia Commonwealth University. The band initially released a self-titled demo and two split EPs before adding vocalist Randy Blythe to their lineup. After a few changes, including the departure of Conner and the return of Morton, the band recorded their first full-length album, "Burn the Priest," in 1999, which was released through Legion Records.

Evolution and Name Change

In 1999, the band rebranded as Lamb of God, a name change that coincided with their growing popularity in the metal scene. The lineup solidified with the addition of Willie Adler as the second guitarist. Over the years, Lamb of God became a significant player in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, releasing critically acclaimed albums such as "New American Gospel" (2000), "As the Palaces Burn" (2003), and "Ashes of the Wake" (2004). Their music, characterized by a blend of groove metal and metalcore, showcased their evolution and ability to incorporate various influences, including thrash and death metal.

Recent Years

The band continued to thrive with subsequent releases like "Wrath" (2009) and "Resolution" (2012), further solidifying their status in the metal genre. In 2019, Chris Adler departed from the band, and Art Cruz took over as the drummer. Despite lineup changes, Lamb of God remains a powerful force in heavy metal, with their latest album, "Omens," released in 2022, continuing to explore themes of politics and personal struggles through Blythe's thought-provoking lyrics. Their influence on the metal scene is undeniable, as they are often regarded as one of the "big four" bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement.
