Early Life and Education

Laura de Carvalho Rizzotto was born on July 18, 1994, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, into a culturally rich family with Latvian, Austrian, Italian, and Portuguese roots. She has an older brother and a younger sister. At the age of 11, her family moved to the United States, settling in Edina, Minnesota, where she learned English. They returned to Brazil a year later, and Rizzotto spent her childhood in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. She began her music journey at the age of 8 with classical piano lessons and later took singing lessons at 14. Rizzotto's dedication to music led her to receive a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2012, after which she moved to Los Angeles to further her studies and career.

Career

Rizzotto's professional music career began at 15 when she performed as a singer-songwriter in Rio de Janeiro. She signed her first record deal with Universal Music Brazil and released her debut album, "Made in Rio," in 2011, featuring original tracks in both English and Portuguese. In 2012, she opened for Demi Lovato in Brazil, which helped boost her profile. After moving to Los Angeles, she independently released her second album, "Reason to Stay," in 2014. Rizzotto continued her education, earning a master's degree in music from Columbia University in 2017. Notably, she worked as a Portuguese language coach for Jennifer Lopez and moderated a panel at the Brazil Conference at Harvard University in 2017. In 2018, she released her third project, an EP titled "RUBY," showcasing her growth as an artist.
