Lea Michele Sarfati was born in The Bronx, New York, on August 29, 1986. She is the only child of Edith Thomasina, a retired nurse, and Mark David Sarfati, a real estate agent. Michele's heritage is a blend of Italian American and Sephardic Jewish, with her family history deeply affected by the Holocaust. Growing up, she was immersed in the arts, often attending Broadway shows, which sparked her passion for performance. She began her career at a young age, making her Broadway debut at just eight years old as Cosette in "Les Misérables".
