Early Life

Lulu Kennedy-Cairns, known simply as Lulu, was born on November 3, 1948, in Lennoxtown, Scotland. Growing up in Glasgow, she attended local schools and began her musical journey at a young age. By the time she was 12, she was performing with a band called the Bellrocks, showcasing her remarkable voice. It was during this time that she adopted the stage name "Lulu," given to her by her future manager, Marion Massey.

Career

Lulu's career took off in the 1960s when her debut single, a cover of The Isley Brothers' "Shout," reached the top ten of the UK Singles Chart in 1964. Lulu's personal life has been as colorful as her career. She was married to Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees from 1969 until their divorce in 1975. Later, she married John Frieda, with whom she had a son, actor Jordan Frieda. Lulu has been open about her struggles with alcoholism, revealing in 2025 that she had been sober for nearly 12 years.
