Early Life

Lynda Jean Carter was born on July 24, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Juana Córdova and Colby Carter. With a diverse heritage that includes Mexican, Spanish, and French roots, she grew up in a creative environment. At just five years old, she made her television debut on Lew King's Talent Show. During her high school years, she showcased her musical talent by performing in a band called Just Us, and later joined another band, The Relatives, which included actor Gary Burghoff as the drummer. By the age of 15, she was already singing in local venues to earn extra money.

Career

Carter's career took a significant turn when she won the title of Miss World USA in 1972, which propelled her into the spotlight. She began taking acting classes and made her first appearance in the 1974 police drama "Nakia." However, it was her iconic role as Wonder Woman from 1975 to 1979 that solidified her fame. Despite facing financial struggles before landing the role, her portrayal of the superhero resonated with audiences and critics alike, making her a beloved figure in pop culture. Beyond acting, Carter has also released several music albums, including "Portrait," "At Last," and "Crazy Little Things."

Personal Life

Carter's personal life has been marked by both triumph and tragedy. She was married to her first husband, Ron Samuels, from 1977 to 1982, a period she described as unhappy. In 1984, she married attorney Robert A. Altman, with whom she had two children. The couple lived in Potomac, Maryland, and were known for their close bond until Altman's passing in 2021. A committed Democrat, Carter has actively supported various political campaigns, including those of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.
