Formation

Måneskin is an Italian rock band formed in Rome in 2016, consisting of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. The band's origins trace back to 2015 when David, De Angelis, and Raggi met as high school students. They later recruited Torchio through a Facebook ad seeking a drummer. The name "Måneskin," meaning "moonlight" in Danish, was chosen during a brainstorming session for a local music contest called Pulse, which marked a pivotal moment in their career as they began writing original songs.

Breakthrough

Måneskin gained significant attention after finishing second in the eleventh season of the Italian version of X Factor in 2017, mentored by Manuel Agnelli. Their breakthrough came in 2021 when they won the Eurovision Song Contest for Italy with their song "Zitti e buoni," following their victory at the Sanremo Music Festival. This success propelled them to international fame, showcasing their unique blend of pop rock and glam rock influences.

The band has released several notable albums, including "Il ballo della vita," "Teatro d’ira, Vol. I," and "Rush!" Their music has evolved from pop rock with funk influences to a harder rock sound, as exemplified in their hit singles like "I Wanna Be Your Slave" and "MAMMAMIA." Måneskin's style is often compared to 1970s rock, drawing inspiration from iconic bands such as Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, and they have garnered multiple awards, including the Billboard Music Award for Top Rock Song and the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Rock.
