Early Life

Alessandro Mahmoud, known professionally as Mahmood, was born in Milan to an Egyptian father and a Sardinian mother from Orosei. Raised in the Milanese district of Gratosoglio, his early life was marked by his parents' divorce when he was just five years old, leading him to be raised primarily by his mother. This multicultural background has significantly influenced his music and artistic identity.

Career

Mahmood's musical journey began in earnest when he auditioned for the sixth season of the Italian version of The X Factor in 2012. Although he faced early setbacks, including elimination, he returned as a wildcard and gained valuable experience. After working in a bar and attending music school, he released his debut single "Fallin' Rain" in 2013. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he won the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival with his hit song "Soldi," which also earned him a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest, where he finished in second place. He continued to build on this success, winning Sanremo again in 2022 with the song "Brividi," which he performed alongside Blanco, finishing sixth at Eurovision.

Mahmood's discography includes notable albums such as "Gioventù bruciata," "Ghettolimpo," and "NEI LETTI DEGLI ALTRI," along with several successful singles like "Luna," "Pesos," and "Calipso." His music blends contemporary R&B and pop, often infused with Middle Eastern sounds, reflecting his diverse heritage.

Personal Life

Beyond his music, Mahmood is known for his progressive views on identity and sexuality. He has expressed discomfort with being labeled by nationality and has spoken out against homophobia, sharing his experiences of bullying during his school years. Mahmood identifies as Catholic and is fluent in Sardinian, showcasing his deep connection to his roots. He has also been in a relationship with a Brazilian male model from 2020 to 2025, further highlighting his open approach to personal relationships and identity.
