Maraaya

Formation

Maraaya is a Slovenian musical duo formed in 2014 by the married couple Marjetka Vovk and Aleš Vovk, known as Raay. The duo's name cleverly combines their names, and its pronunciation translates to "She has Raay" in Slovene. Both members were previously part of the turbo-folk group Turbo Angels before embarking on their journey as Maraaya.

Breakthrough

The duo made a significant impact with their debut single "Lovin' Me," which quickly climbed the charts, becoming one of the top 20 best-selling singles in Italy and achieving notable success in Belgium, Germany, and Slovenia. Following this success, they represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with their second single, "Here for You," which garnered them a 5th place finish in the semi-finals and a 14th place in the grand final. This song also topped the Slovenian SloTop50 chart and performed well across various European charts.

Legacy

Maraaya's contributions to pop music have been marked by their catchy melodies and engaging performances. They continue to influence the Slovenian music scene, not only through their own work but also by nurturing young talent through their private music school. Their journey reflects a blend of personal and professional partnership, showcasing their commitment to both their family and their musical aspirations.
