Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull was born on December 29, 1946, in Hampstead, London, into a family with a rich cultural background. Her father, Major Robert Glynn Faithfull, was a British intelligence officer and professor, while her mother, Eva, was the daughter of an Austro-Hungarian nobleman and a former ballerina. Following her parents' divorce when she was six, Marianne moved with her mother to Reading, Berkshire, where they faced financial hardships. Despite these challenges, she showed early promise in the arts, participating in local theatre productions.

Career

Faithfull's music career took off in the 1960s when she began singing folk songs in coffeehouses. Her breakthrough came after meeting Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham, leading to her first hit single, "As Tears Go By," written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. This success positioned her as a leading female artist of the British Invasion in the United States. Throughout her career, she released numerous albums, including "Broken English" and "Faithless," showcasing her evolution from pop to rock and jazz. In addition to her music, Faithfull also pursued acting, appearing in films and stage productions, including a notable role in the film "The Girl on a Motorcycle."
