Matthew Broderick

Early Life

Matthew Broderick was born on March 21, 1962, in Manhattan, New York City, to a family deeply rooted in the arts. His mother, Patricia, was a playwright, actress, and painter, while his father, James, was an actor and World War II veteran. Growing up as the only son among two sisters, Broderick was influenced by his parents' artistic pursuits. He attended the City and Country School and later the Walden School, where he honed his acting skills at HB Studio.

Career

Broderick's career began to take shape in the early 1980s when he starred in an HB Studio workshop production of Horton Foote's "On Valentine's Day." His breakthrough came with the off-Broadway production of Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy," which garnered him critical acclaim. He became a prominent figure on Broadway, winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in "Brighton Beach Memoirs." Broderick is also known for his film roles, including the iconic character Ferris Bueller in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Personal Life

In his personal life, Broderick married actress Sarah Jessica Parker on May 19, 1997, in an Episcopal ceremony officiated by his sister. The couple has three children, including a son and twin daughters via surrogacy. They split their time between their home in the West Village and a second home in Kilcar, Ireland, where Broderick spent his childhood summers. He is known for his liberal views and has explored his ancestry, discovering connections to Union soldiers in the Civil War through the NBC program "Who Do You Think You Are?"
