Career

Cunningham's career was marked by groundbreaking collaborations with a diverse array of artists, including renowned musicians like John Cage and David Tudor, as well as visual artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. These partnerships not only enriched his work but also left a lasting impact on the avant-garde art scene beyond dance. Legacy

In June 2009, the Cunningham Dance Foundation announced a Legacy Plan, which was a pioneering initiative in the dance world. This plan aimed to preserve Cunningham's oeuvre and ensure that his works could be studied and performed by future generations. It included a comprehensive digital documentation program and established the Merce Cunningham Trust to manage his dances for licensing. Following his passing at the age of 90, the plan facilitated a final international tour for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, culminating in their last performance on December 31, 2011, at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. Cunningham's vision for the future of his work continues to influence the dance community today.
