Early Life

Michelle Christine Trachtenberg was born on October 11, 1985, in New York City to Jewish immigrant parents, Lana and Michael Trachtenberg. Growing up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, she attended The Bay Academy for the Arts and Sciences before her family moved to Los Angeles, where she completed her education at Notre Dame High School. Trachtenberg faced bullying during her school years but emerged as a youth representative for an anti-drug campaign alongside President Bill Clinton.

Career

Trachtenberg's career began at the tender age of three with a commercial for Wisk detergent, leading to over 100 commercial appearances. She gained fame on Nickelodeon's "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" and made her film debut in the 1996 comedy "Harriet the Spy." Her role as Dawn Summers in the iconic series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" solidified her status as a prominent young actress. In addition to her television work, she appeared in the music video for Trapt's song "Echo" and starred in the teen comedy "EuroTrip." Trachtenberg's talent earned her a Young Artist Award for her performance in the sitcom "Meego."

In her personal life, Trachtenberg dated actor Shawn Ashmore from 2004 to 2006 and had a brief relationship with musician Pete Wentz. At the time of her passing in 2025, she was in a long-term relationship with talent agent Jay Cohen, whom she began dating in 2020.
