Musiqq

Formation

Musiqq, a Latvian pop music duo, was formed in 2009 in Liepāja by Marats Ogļezņevs and Emīls Balceris. The duo's origins trace back to their participation in the TV show "Koru kari" in 2008, where they first met. After Ogļezņevs left his previous group, Device, he reached out to Balceris, leading to their first meeting where they quickly wrote four demo songs together.

Breakthrough and Key Releases

The duo gained significant exposure with their debut single "Klimata kontrole" in June 2009, followed by the hit "Abrakadabra" in October, which won the "SEB Musical Bank 2009". Their debut album, "Šī ir tikai mūzika" ("This is just music"), was released in March 2010, featuring popular tracks like "Dzimšanas diena" and "Klimata kontrole". Musiqq continued their success with their second album, "Vēl viena mūzika" ("Another music"), released in 2014, and participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "Angel in Disguise".

Musiqq has made a significant impact on the Latvian music scene, consistently producing high-selling songs and receiving multiple awards, including three Copyright infinity prizes for their radio play. Their contributions to pop music have been recognized with nominations and wins at various music awards, solidifying their status as influential figures in the Latvian pop genre.
