Naya Marie Rivera was born on January 12, 1987, in Valencia, California. Raised in a family of diverse heritage, she was of African-American, German, and Puerto Rican descent. Rivera's mother, Yolanda, was a real estate agent and former model, while her father, George, worked in IT.
