Early Life

Nemo Mettler, known mononymously as Nemo, was born in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, in the canton of Bern. They are the child of Markus Mettler, an entrepreneur, and Nadja Schnetzler, a journalist. From a young age, Nemo showed a passion for music, beginning their journey at just three years old by learning to play the violin, piano, and drum machine. By the age of ten, they were already performing in the Biel children's opera and later took part in various musical productions, including Mozart's "The Magic Flute". This early exposure to music laid the foundation for their future career.

Career

Nemo's career took off when they released their first EP, "Clownfisch," in 2015, which peaked at number 95 in the Swiss charts. Their single "Cypher" went viral in 2016, marking a significant milestone in their rise to fame. Over the years, they released several successful EPs and singles, including "Du," which reached number 4 in Switzerland. In 2018, they won four Swiss Music Prizes, including Best Song of the Year for "Du". Nemo made history as the first openly non-binary act to represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest, winning the 2024 contest with their song "The Code."

Personal Life

Nemo identifies as pansexual and publicly came out as non-binary in November 2023. They have been in a long-term relationship with their girlfriend, who was the first person they confided in about their non-binary identity. Throughout their journey, Nemo has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, calling for the Swiss government to legally recognize a third gender after their Eurovision win. Their artistic direction often involves collaboration with their sister, Ella, who is a photographer. Currently, Nemo resides in Paris after living in Berlin and London, continuing to make waves in the music industry.
