Pat Boone

Early Life

Patrick Charles Eugene Boone, known as Pat Boone, was born on June 1, 1934, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was raised in Nashville, Tennessee, after his family moved there when he was two years old. Boone graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 1952 and later attended David Lipscomb College and North Texas State University, ultimately earning a bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1958. He is a descendant of the famous American pioneer Daniel Boone.

Career

Boone's music career began in the early 1950s when he started performing at Sunday concerts in Nashville's Centennial Park. He recorded his first songs in 1953 for Republic Records and later signed with Dot Records in 1955. His cover of Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame" became a major hit, marking the start of his successful career. Over the years, Boone became one of the most popular recording artists of the 1950s and early 1960s, with 38 Top 40 hits in the U.S. and six number-one singles, including "Love Letters in the Sand" and "April Love." He was known for his wholesome image and often covered rhythm and blues songs for a predominantly white audience.

Personal Life

In 1953, Boone married Shirley Lee Foley, the daughter of country music star Red Foley. The couple had four daughters and lived in Teaneck, New Jersey, during the late 1950s. Boone has been politically active, supporting various Republican candidates and causes, and has maintained friendships with several U.S. presidents. He is also a staunch supporter of Israel and has been involved in various philanthropic efforts throughout his life. Boone's contributions to music and culture have earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
