Petra Marklund

Early Life

Petra Linnea Paula Marklund, known by her stage name September, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, to a Slovenian mother with a musical background and a Swedish father who is a professor of space physics. Her family affectionately called her the "September child," which inspired her stage name. Marklund began her musical journey at the tender age of twelve, recording in professional studios, but it wasn't until later that she made her commercial debut.

Career

Marklund's career took off when she was discovered by producer Hans Edler in 1998. She released her first album, "Teen Queen," in 1999, but it did not achieve commercial success. However, her breakthrough came in 2003 with the release of her debut single "La La La (Never Give It Up)," which peaked at number 8 in Sweden. This success led to her self-titled album, "September," released in 2004, featuring hits like "We Can Do It" and "September All Over." Over the years, her music evolved from dance-pop to more introspective Swedish-language themes, showcasing her distinctive vocal range and songwriting skills.

Artistic Development

Marklund's artistry has seen significant evolution, moving from upbeat dance tracks to more personal and reflective music. Influenced by artists like Kylie Minogue and Madonna, she has crafted a unique sound that blends pop structures with dance elements. Her style also transformed, incorporating avant-garde fashion and a bold new image, particularly noted in her 2011 video for "Resuscitate Me."

Personal Life

Since 2009, Marklund has resided in London, where she attended dance school. She is a mother of two, having welcomed her first child in 2016 and her second in September 2018. Her journey as an artist and a mother continues to shape her music and public persona.
