The Ramones were formed in January 1974 in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City, by four friends: Joey Ramone (lead vocals), Johnny Ramone (guitar), Dee Dee Ramone (bass guitar and lead vocals), and Tommy Ramone (drums). The band initially took shape when John Cummings (Johnny) and Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee) invited Jeff Hyman (Joey) to join them in a band.
