Redman

Early Life

Born Reginald Noble on April 17, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey, Redman had a challenging upbringing. He attended several schools, including Speedway Avenue School and West Side High School, but faced expulsion from Montclair State University at just 16 due to poor academic performance. After being kicked out of his mother's house for selling cocaine, he began his journey in music as a DJ-MC known as "DJ Kut-Killa," performing at local parks and parties. His big break came when he was discovered by Erick Sermon of EPMD, who invited him to live with him and tour with the group.

Music Career

Redman made his official debut in 1990 on EPMD's album "Business as Usual" and released his first album, "Whut? Thee Album," in 1992, which was certified gold and showcased his unique blend of reggae and funk influences. His follow-up album, "Dare Iz a Darkside," released in 1994, further solidified his reputation, featuring the hit single "Rockafella." Throughout his career, Redman has released several acclaimed albums, including "Muddy Waters," "Doc's da Name 2000," and "Malpractice," and has collaborated with various artists, including A Tribe Called Quest.

Personal Life

Redman remains grounded despite his fame. He famously showcased his modest Staten Island home on MTV Cribs, which was noted for its authenticity compared to the lavish homes typically featured on the show. He continues to live in the same small house, emphasizing his preference for a simple lifestyle. Additionally, Redman has a close relationship with his family, including his sister Rosalyn, who is also a rapper, and he has a fondness for animals, having trained his pit bull with Cesar Millan.

Legacy

Redman has received recognition for his contributions to music, including a MOBO Award for Best Video in 2003 for "Dirrty" with Christina Aguilera and two Grammy nominations. His influence in the hip-hop genre, particularly in East Coast and psychedelic rap, continues to resonate with fans and artists alike.
