Her father, Ilya Spektor, was a photographer and amateur violinist, while her mother, Bella Spektor, was a music professor. Growing up, Regina was immersed in music, taking piano lessons at the age of seven and influenced by classical music and Russian bards. The family emigrated to New York City in 1989, when Regina was nine, leaving behind her piano but bringing with them a rich cultural heritage that would later influence her music.
