Richard Kind

Early Life

Richard Bruce Kind was born on November 22, 1956, in Trenton, New Jersey, to Alice, a homemaker, and Samuel Kind, a jeweler. His family has Russian Jewish roots, with his great-grandfather, Hyman Berson, immigrating to the United States and working as a peddler before running a crayon factory. Kind grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania, where he attended Pennsbury High School, graduating in 1974. He later earned a degree from Northwestern University in 1978, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After spending four years in New York City, he returned to Chicago to join the Practical Theatre Company, eventually being recruited by The Second City in 1983.

Career

Richard Kind's career spans television, film, and theater. He gained fame for his role as Dr. Mark Devanow on the sitcom "Mad About You" (1992-1999) and as Paul Lassiter on "Spin City" (1996-2002), where he appeared in every episode alongside Michael Boatman. Kind also had memorable roles in shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Scrubs," showcasing his comedic talent. His film credits include notable works such as "Stargate" (1994), "A Serious Man" (2009), and "Tick, Tick... Boom!" (2021). Currently, he serves as the announcer and sidekick on the Netflix talk show "Everybody's Live with John Mulaney."

Personal Life

Richard Kind was married to Dana Stanley from 1999 until their divorce in 2018, and they have three children together. He resides on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. In a fun anecdote, George Clooney once played pranks on Kind while staying at his apartment, including a notorious incident involving Kind's cat's litter box. Kind was also inducted into the Pennsbury High School Hall of Fame in 2022, recognizing his contributions to the arts and entertainment.
