Richard Marx

Early Life

Richard Noel Marx was born on September 16, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to a family steeped in music. His mother, Ruth, was a former singer, and his father, Dick Marx, was a jazz musician and the founder of a jingle company. Growing up as an only child, Marx was exposed to music from a young age, beginning his career at just five years old by singing commercial jingles for his father's company. He attended North Shore Country Day School and has three half-siblings from his father's previous marriage.

Career

Marx's journey in music took a significant turn when, at 17, a tape of his songs reached Lionel Richie, who encouraged him to move to Los Angeles. There, he met Fee Waybill of the Tubes, with whom he would collaborate extensively. His self-titled debut album, released in June 1987, marked the beginning of his stardom, featuring the hit single "Don't Mean Nothing," which reached No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The album went triple platinum, establishing Marx as a prominent figure in pop music. Over the years, he released several successful albums, including "Repeat Offender," "Rush Street," and "Paid Vacation," and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

Personal Life

Marx's personal life has been as eventful as his career. He married actress Cynthia Rhodes in 1989, with whom he had three sons, but the couple divorced in 2014. In 2015, he married Cuban-American actress Daisy Fuentes. Notably, in December 2016, Marx gained media attention for helping to manage an unruly passenger on a flight, showcasing his quick thinking and composure. A vegan, Marx continues to influence the music scene while maintaining a vibrant personal life.
