Early Life

Frederick Allan Moranis, known as Rick Moranis, was born on April 18, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, into a Jewish family. He attended elementary school alongside Geddy Lee, the frontman of the iconic rock band Rush, which hints at his early connections to the music world.

Career

Moranis began his career in the mid-1970s as a radio disc jockey, adopting the on-air name "Rick Allan" at various Toronto radio stations. His comedic talents flourished when he teamed up with Rob Cowan for a popular spoof of Hockey Night in Canada, which they performed live. In 1980, he joined the cast of Second City Television (SCTV), where he became renowned for his celebrity impressions and comedic sketches. His film career took off in the 1980s with memorable roles in classics such as Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Beyond acting, Moranis also ventured into music, releasing albums like "You, Me, the Music and Me" and "The Agoraphobic Cowboy."

Personal Life

In 1986, Moranis married makeup designer Ann Belsky, and they had two children together. Tragically, Belsky passed away from breast cancer in 1991, prompting Moranis to step back from his career to focus on raising his children as a single father. Despite his absence from the public eye, he remains a beloved figure in entertainment, known for his unique blend of humor and heart. In 2020, Moranis made headlines when he was assaulted in New York City, but he has since continued to maintain a low profile, prioritizing his family and personal life.
