Rita Ora

Early Life

Rita Sahatçiu Ora was born on November 26, 1990, in Pristina, SFR Yugoslavia (modern-day Kosovo), to Albanian parents. Her mother, Vera, is a psychiatrist, while her father, Besnik, is a pub owner with a background in economics. The family relocated to London in 1991 due to political persecution against Albanians during the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Growing up in Notting Hill, Rita attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, where she honed her performing arts skills.

Career

Ora's career began at a young age, with her first acting role at 13 in the British drama series "The Brief" and a subsequent appearance in the film "Spivs" (2004). She gained significant attention in 2012 when she featured on DJ Fresh's hit single "Hot Right Now," which topped the UK singles chart. Shortly after, she signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation and released her debut album, "Ora," in 2012, which debuted at number one in the UK and included chart-topping singles like "R.I.P." and "How We Do (Party)." Over the years, she has released several successful albums and singles, including "Phoenix" and "You & I," solidifying her status in the contemporary R&B and urban contemporary genres.

Personal Life

Rita Ora identifies as spiritual but not religious and is fluent in Albanian. She has been involved in various relationships, notably with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and American musician Andrew Watt. Since 2021, she has been in a relationship with New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, and they married in August 2022. In 2015, she was honored as an Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo, reflecting her strong ties to her heritage. Despite her fame, she faced controversy in 2020 for breaching COVID-19 restrictions during a birthday celebration, for which she publicly apologized and was fined.
