Rob Halford

Early Life

Robert John Arthur Halford was born on August 25, 1951, in Sutton Coldfield, England. He grew up in Walsall, where he was raised on the Beechdale housing estate, which was also home to Noddy Holder. Halford's early exposure to music and performance set the stage for his future career as a heavy metal icon.

Career

Halford's musical journey began when he joined the band Judas Priest in 1973, after being introduced to bassist Ian Hill by his sister. He made his recording debut with the band on their first album, "Rocka Rolla," in 1974. Over the years, Halford became known for his powerful operatic voice and his distinctive leather-and-studs image, which became synonymous with heavy metal. He led Judas Priest through the 1970s and 1980s, earning accolades such as the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Halford's stage presence was marked by dramatic moments, including a memorable incident in 1991 when he fell off a stage riser while riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle during a performance.

Personal Life

In addition to his music career, Halford is known for his openness about his sexuality, publicly coming out as gay in 1998 during an MTV interview. He expressed that revealing his identity was a liberating experience, despite concerns about potential backlash from fans. Halford enjoys a variety of hobbies, including supporting sports teams like the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Cardinals, and he has a passion for classic cars, owning several vintage models. He divides his time between homes in the United States and his hometown of Walsall. Halford has also been recognized for his contributions to music, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Metal Hall of Fame as a member of Judas Priest.
