Roger Daltrey

Early Life

Roger Harry Daltrey was born on March 1, 1944, in Hammersmith Hospital, London, during a World War II bombing raid. He is the eldest of three children in his family, with two younger sisters. His father, an insurance clerk, was called to serve in the war, leading Roger and his mother to evacuate to a farm in Scotland. Daltrey attended Victoria Primary School and Acton County Grammar School, where he excelled academically. He made his first guitar in 1957 and joined a skiffle group called the Detours, where he quickly became the lead vocalist and later the band's leader, known for his tough demeanor.

Career

Daltrey's music career took off as he co-founded the iconic rock band The Who, where he became renowned for his powerful voice and charismatic stage presence. He has released ten solo studio albums, starting with his debut, "Daltrey," in 1973, which featured the hit single "Giving It All Away." His second album, "Ride a Rock Horse," followed in 1975, solidifying his status as a solo artist. Over the years, he collaborated with various artists, including Paul McCartney, and produced several successful albums, including soundtracks and live performances of The Who's rock opera, "Tommy."
