Rush

Formation

Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in August 1968 in Toronto, Ontario. The original lineup consisted of guitarist Alex Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, and bassist/vocalist Jeff Jones. After a brief period, Jeff Jones was replaced by Geddy Lee, who became the band's lead vocalist and bassist. The band initially performed blues-rock covers and gained traction in the local music scene, securing management and expanding their repertoire.

Breakthrough

In 1974, Rush solidified its classic lineup with the addition of drummer Neil Peart, who replaced Rutsey shortly after the release of their self-titled debut album. This trio—Lifeson, Lee, and Peart—remained intact for over four decades, producing iconic albums such as "2112," "Moving Pictures," and "Hemispheres." Their music evolved from blues-based hard rock to progressive rock, incorporating complex compositions and philosophical lyrics influenced by Ayn Rand.

Legacy

Rush's influence on the rock genre is profound, inspiring countless artists across various styles, from heavy metal to alternative rock. The band has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and multiple Juno Awards. After Peart's retirement in 2015 and subsequent passing in 2020, Lifeson and Lee confirmed the band's disbandment, but they continue to honor Rush's legacy through occasional collaborations and planned reunions, ensuring that their music remains a significant part of rock history.
