Formation
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band formed in December 1999 in Falun, Sweden. The original lineup consisted of lead singer Joakim Brodén, bassist Pär Sundström, guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, and drummer Richard Larsson. The band initially recorded songs in Peter Tägtgren's studio, The Abyss, and signed with the Italian label Underground Symphony, releasing their promo CD "Fist for Fight". After a few years of performances, they signed with Black Lodge Records and released their debut album, "Primo Victoria", in 2005, which marked the beginning of their historical-themed lyrical focus.
Breakthrough and Evolution
Following the success of "Primo Victoria", Sabaton continued to release a series of albums that solidified their reputation in the power metal genre, including "Attero Dominatus" (2006) and "The Art of War" (2008). The band underwent several lineup changes, with Brodén and Sundström remaining the only consistent members. In 2012, they welcomed new members, including guitarist Chris Rörland and drummer Hannes Van Dahl, which revitalized the band’s sound.
