Sally Clare Kellerman was born on June 2, 1937, in Long Beach, California, to Edith Baine, a piano teacher, and John Helm Kellerman, a Shell Oil executive. Growing up in a Christian Science household, she moved to the San Fernando Valley during her childhood, where she spent her early years surrounded by nature. Despite her shyness and struggles in school, she found solace in music and drama, eventually participating in a school production of "Meet Me in St. Louis." Her passion for music led her to submit a demo to Verve Records, although she initially hesitated to pursue a career as a recording artist.

Career

Kellerman's career spanned over six decades, during which she became a prominent figure in both film and television. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in Robert Altman's film "M*A*S*H" (1970), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Following this success, she collaborated with Altman on several projects, including "Brewster McCloud" (1970) and "The Player" (1992). In addition to her film work, Kellerman made notable appearances in classic television series such as "Star Trek" and "The Twilight Zone," showcasing her versatility as an actress. She also ventured into music, releasing her album titled "Sally" and a single called "Triad."

Personal Life

Kellerman's personal life was marked by both triumphs and challenges. She experienced a tumultuous relationship with actor William Duffy, which led to a significant personal crisis in 1961. Throughout her life, she had several high-profile relationships, including a brief marriage to producer Rick Edelstein. In the mid-1970s, she was romantically linked to Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, who wrote a song titled "Sally" in her honor.
