Early Life

Salma Valgarma Hayek Pinault was born on September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, into a wealthy and devout Catholic family. Her father, Sami Hayek Domínguez, is of Lebanese descent and an industrial-equipment firm owner, while her mother, Diana Jiménez Medina, is an opera singer of Spanish descent. Raised in a culturally rich environment, Salma was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age, which she overcame through determination and hard work. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Louisiana and later studied international relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana.

Career

Hayek began her acting career in Mexico, gaining fame for her role in the telenovela "Teresa" (1989-1991), which earned her the TVyNovelas Award for Best Female Revelation. In pursuit of a Hollywood career, she moved to Los Angeles in 1991, where she faced challenges due to her limited English and the lack of roles for Latin women. Despite these obstacles, she secured guest roles in various television series and made her film debut in "Mi Vida Loca" (1993). Her breakthrough came with the film "Desperado" (1995), followed by notable performances in "From Dusk till Dawn" (1996) and "Dogma" (1999). Hayek's talent and perseverance have made her a prominent figure in both Mexican and American cinema.

Personal Life

In addition to her successful career, Hayek is a naturalized U.S. citizen and has been open about her spiritual journey, having studied at Ramtha's School of Enlightenment and practicing yoga. She was engaged to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, with whom she shares a daughter born in 2007. The couple married in 2009, renewing their vows in Venice later that year. Hayek has also been vocal about her views on various social issues, including her disagreement with the Catholic Church's stance on contraception.
