Sandra Hüller

Early Life

Sandra Hüller was born on April 30, 1978, in Suhl, East Germany, and grew up in the picturesque villages of Oberhof and Friedrichroda in Thuringia. The daughter of educators, she was inspired by her parents' commitment to learning and began her artistic journey in her teenage years. Hüller joined a drama club and participated in her school's theatre workshop, eventually making her stage debut in 1996 with a production at the Theatertreffen der Jugend in Berlin. She pursued formal training in acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, graduating in 2003.

Career

Hüller's professional career began in 1998 at the Theaterhaus Jena, followed by a stint at Schauspiel Leipzig. Her breakthrough came in 2006 with her role in the film "Requiem," which earned her the Best Actress award at the Berlin International Film Festival and her first German Film Award. Over the years, she has showcased her versatility in various roles, including a notable performance as Elizabeth I in the play "Virgin Queen" and in the music theatre show "For Love." Hüller has also been involved in the FARN.collective theatre group, co-founded in 2016, and has continued to work with acclaimed directors like Johan Simons.

Personal Life

Fluent in German, English, French, and Spanish, Hüller considers Thuringia her home but has been residing in Leipzig-Plagwitz since 2018 with her daughter, born in 2011. Interestingly, she is also a licensed forklift operator, a skill she acquired for her role in the film "In the Aisles." Hüller's dedication to her craft has earned her numerous accolades, including two Silver Bears and a César Award, and she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in "Anatomy of a Fall" in 2023, marking a significant milestone in her career.
