Early Life

Sarah Ann McLachlan was born on January 28, 1968, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as the youngest of three adopted children. Raised by her parents, Dorice and Jack McLachlan, a marine biologist, she began her musical journey at the tender age of four, learning to play the ukulele. Over the next twelve years, she honed her skills in classical guitar, piano, voice, and opera at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. At 17, while still a student at Queen Elizabeth High School, she fronted a rock band called The October Game, which led to her first recording contract with Nettwerk Records after a successful concert.

McLachlan's career took off with the release of her debut album, "Touch," in 1987, which garnered critical acclaim.
