Sean Ono Lennon

Early Life

Sean Tarō Ono Lennon was born on October 9, 1975, at Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, New York City, coinciding with his father's 35th birthday. He is the son of legendary musician John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono, and has a diverse heritage, being of Japanese descent from his mother and English, Welsh, and Irish descent from his father. Tragically, Sean's father was murdered when he was just five years old, which profoundly impacted his early life. He was educated in prestigious institutions, including the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland and Columbia University, where he studied anthropology before leaving to pursue music.

Career

Sean's musical journey began at a young age, contributing to his mother's album "Season of Glass" at just five years old. He later became a member of the band Cibo Matto and collaborated with various artists, leading to his signing with Grand Royal Records. His solo debut, "Into the Sun," was released in 1998, featuring the popular single "Home," which was directed by Spike Jonze. Over the years, Sean has released several albums, including "Friendly Fire" and "Asterisms," and has been involved in various musical projects, such as the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and the Claypool Lennon Delirium.

Activism and Personal Life

Beyond music, Sean is known for his activism, particularly in support of Tibetan independence and against hydraulic fracking. He has participated in the Occupy Wall Street protests and launched the "Artists Against Fracking" campaign, rallying over 200 artists to raise awareness about environmental issues. In his personal life, Sean has been in a long-term relationship with Charlotte Kemp Muhl since 2005, and they have one son together, born in August 2026. The couple collaborates musically and creates much of their work in their home studio in Greenwich Village, New York.
