Shannyn Sossamon

Early Life

Shannon Marie Kahololani "Shannyn" Sossamon was born in Hawaii and raised in Reno, Nevada. Her diverse ancestry includes Dutch, English, French, German, Irish, Filipino, and Hawaiian roots. After her parents divorced when she was five, she and her sister were raised by their mother, who later married Randy Goldman, a salesman. Sossamon graduated from Galena High School in 1995 and soon after moved to Los Angeles with friends to pursue dance. She fondly recalls the freedom of that new chapter in her life, stating, "Nothing compares to that feeling when you first leave home and arrive somewhere new."

Career

Sossamon's career began in Los Angeles in 1995, where she worked as a DJ and modeled for various brands. She appeared in commercials and music videos for notable artists, including Daft Punk and Cher. Her breakthrough came when she was cast as Lady Jocelyn in the film "A Knight's Tale" (2001), opposite Heath Ledger. This role marked the start of her acting career, leading to appearances in films such as "40 Days and 40 Nights" and "The Holiday."

Musical Pursuits

In addition to acting, Sossamon has a passion for music. After the birth of her first child, she began taking guitar lessons and formed the indie rock band Warpaint with her sister Jenny Lee Lindberg. Initially, she played guitar but later took on the role of drummer, stating, "When we all started the band together, we needed a drummer, and it really worked and I had so much fun." Although she writes songs, Sossamon has expressed that she does not consider herself a musician in the traditional sense, as her focus is often on storytelling and visual art.
