Early Life

Paul Hartmut Würdig, known professionally as Sido, was born on November 30, 1980, in East Berlin. Raised by his mother, a Sinti, alongside his younger sister, Sido's early life was marked by significant transitions, including a move to West Berlin in 1988. The family initially lived in emergency accommodation before settling in Märkisches Viertel, a neighborhood characterized by a mix of migrants and low-income families. Sido attended the Bettina-von-Arnim-Oberschule and began an apprenticeship as an educator, which he ultimately did not complete.

Career

Sido's music career took off in 1997 when he, along with his friend B-Tight, began releasing EPs under the name Royal TS through the underground label Royal Bunker. His breakthrough came in 2002 with the release of "Arschficksong" on the sampler Aggro Ansage Nr. 1. His debut album, "Maske," released in 2004, reached No. 3 on the German charts and achieved gold status, selling over 180,000 copies. The album featured hit singles like "Mein Block" and "Fuffies im Club," solidifying his place in the German hip-hop scene. Sido's unique style and provocative lyrics have made him a prominent figure in the genre, leading to numerous awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best German Act.

Personal Life

Sido has a son, whose name remains private, and he often references him in his music. He was engaged to Doreen Steinert in 2010, but they broke off their engagement in 2012. Shortly after, he began dating TV presenter Charlotte Engelhardt, with whom he has a second son born in 2013. Interestingly, Sido is also the second cousin of Menowin Fröhlich, a participant in the German talent show DSDS.
