Sirusho

Early Life

Siranush Hrachyayi Harutyunyan, known professionally as Sirusho, was born on January 7, 1987, in Yerevan, Soviet Armenia, to a family deeply rooted in the arts. Her father, Hrachya Harutyunyan, was an actor and director, while her mother, Syuzan Margaryan, was a popular singer in Armenia during the 1980s and 1990s. At the age of seven, Sirusho moved to Canada with her parents, where she began her musical journey, performing on stage and writing her own songs in both Armenian and English. By the age of nine, she had already won her first award for her performance of "Lusabats," a traditional Armenian folk song.

Career

Sirusho's professional music career took off with the release of her debut album, "Sirusho," in 2000, followed by her second album, "Sheram," in 2005. The latter showcased her exploration of Armenian folk music and included the hit single "Shorora." Her contributions to music earned her several accolades, including the Future of Armenian Music award and recognition as Best Female Performer at the Armenian National Music Awards. Over the years, she has released numerous singles and albums, including "Hima" and "Armat," solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the Armenian pop and soul music scene.

Personal Life and Activism

On June 6, 2009, Sirusho married Levon Kocharyan, the son of Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan. The couple has three children, including their daughter Zabelle, born in 2022. Beyond her music career, Sirusho is known for her activism, supporting the independence of the Republic of Artsakh and advocating for global recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Her commitment to these causes was evident during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War, where she engaged in volunteer efforts and used her platform to raise awareness about Armenian issues. Sirusho's artistic and personal journey reflects her deep connection to her heritage and her dedication to her country's cultural identity.
