Early Life

Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, known mononymously as Sissal, was born in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. She is the daughter of Faroese glass artist Mikkalina Norðberg, which likely influenced her artistic inclinations from a young age.

Career

Sissal's musical journey began to take shape in 2005 when she won the Faroese children's singing competition Nósa Barnaprix with her song "Summarið er komið." This early success paved the way for her future endeavors in music. In 2010, she further established her reputation by winning the annual singing competition Ársins Songrødd.

In 2025, Sissal released her first EP titled "Hear Me Now" and participated in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with her song "Hallucination." Her performance won her the opportunity to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, where she made history as the second Faroese artist to do so. She successfully qualified for the final, ending Denmark's six-year non-qualification streak, and finished 23rd with 47 points.

Sissal's career continued to flourish as she joined the cast of the 22nd season of "Vild med dans," the Danish version of Dancing with the Stars, in September 2025. Although she and her partner Eugen Miu were eliminated fourth, her visibility increased. In January 2026, she returned to the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with her song "Infinity," finishing in third place in the super final. Additionally, she served as the Danish spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest that year, showcasing her growing prominence in the music scene.

Personal Life

In 2020, Sissal relocated to Copenhagen to further her international music career. She is also a dedicated mother to two daughters, balancing her family life with her artistic ambitions. Sissal draws inspiration from notable artists like Dagny and Robyn, which reflects in her musical style and aspirations.
