Soluna Samay

Early Life

Soluna Samay Kettel was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, to a German father, musician Gerd G. Kettel, known as Gee Gee Kettel, and a Swiss mother, artist Annelis Ziegler. Growing up on the picturesque shores of Lago de Atitlán, she attended the Robert Muller LIFE school. In 2000, her family moved to Denmark, purchasing a small farm on Bornholm, an island in the Baltic Sea. Soluna is multilingual, fluent in English, Danish, Spanish, and German, and her name, derived from the Spanish words for sun and moon, reflects her diverse heritage. She also holds a Swiss passport, making her officially Swiss.

Music Career

Soluna's musical journey began at the tender age of five when she joined her father on drums and soon started singing. By ten, she had transitioned to electric bass, and at sixteen, she took up the upright bass. Her summers were spent touring and performing music on the streets of Europe with her parents, while winters were dedicated to life in Guatemala. At twelve, she began learning guitar and wrote her first songs, marking the beginning of her songwriting career.

In 2012, Soluna represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest held in Baku, Azerbaijan, with her entry "Should've Known Better." Her discography includes albums like "Sing Out Loud" and her self-titled album, showcasing her evolution as a pop artist. Soluna continues to be a vibrant figure in the Danish music scene, blending her multicultural influences into her work.
